FAQ

Ever looked at the water sitting below your water butt tap and thought, "How am I supposed to get that out?"

We've got just the thing.

Our Brass Water Butt Tap & Draw Down Drain Valve Kit combines two useful water butt accessories in one handy set.

Use the traditional brass tap as your main everyday outlet for filling watering cans and connecting a garden hose. Then use the draw down valve at the lower outlet to access the remaining water or drain your tank when it's time for a clean.

It's a simple upgrade that can make your rainwater harvesting setup much more practical.

  • Two useful outlets – one for everyday watering and one for draining
  • Make use of more collected rainwater – access water below the level of your main tap
  • Easier tank emptying – handy when cleaning, maintaining or moving your water butt
  • Brass finish – a smart upgrade from a standard plastic water butt tap
  • Hose-friendly connections – ideal for garden watering setups
  • Great water butt upgrade – ideal when setting up a new tank or improving an existing one
  • Everything together – no need to purchase your main tap and drain valve separately

What's included?

1 x Brass Water Butt Tap 3/4"
Traditional-style brass tap with hose connection fittings.

1 x Brass Draw Down / Bottom Drain Valve 3/4"
Quarter-turn valve with quick hose connection.

PTFE tape and the fittings pictured with the brass tap are also included

What's a draw down valve?

It's basically a handy bottom drain for your water butt.

Your main tap normally needs to sit above ground level so you can get a watering can underneath it. This means there can still be water left in the bottom of the tank when your tap stops flowing.

A draw down valve fitted to a suitable lower outlet gives you another way to access that water.

It's particularly useful when you want to:

  • Get to the water below your main tap
  • Connect a hose
  • Completely drain your water butt
  • Clean the inside of the tank
  • Empty it before moving or maintaining it

Great for

Water butts, rainwater tanks, rainwater harvesting systems, garden irrigation and replacing or upgrading existing water butt taps and fittings.

Please check your water butt before ordering

Water butts aren't all made with the same connections, so please check that your tank has suitable threaded outlets for these fittings before ordering.

If you're buying them for one of our Spudulica water butts and aren't sure whether they'll fit, just ask us – we're always happy to help
