FAQ

Need to strengthen unstable ground or create a more reliable base for your next project? TCS TechGrid BX is a heavy-duty biaxial geogrid designed to improve ground stability, reinforce aggregate layers and distribute loads more effectively.

Whether you're building a driveway, access track, car park, hardstanding or working platform, adding a ground reinforcement geogrid beneath the aggregate can help create a stronger and more stable construction.

What is TCS TechGrid BX?

TechGrid BX is an extruded polypropylene biaxial geogrid designed to provide reinforcement in both directions.

Once installed within the sub-base, the open grid structure allows aggregate to interlock with the geogrid. This helps restrict sideways movement of the aggregate and creates a more stable reinforced layer.

The result? Better load distribution and less movement, rutting and settlement, particularly where you're working with weak or variable ground.

Where Can TechGrid BX Be Used?

TCS TechGrid BX is suitable for a wide range of domestic, landscaping and construction applications, including:

  • Driveway ground reinforcement
  • Gravel driveway construction
  • Access roads and tracks
  • Car parks
  • Hardstandings
  • Working platforms
  • Road construction
  • Pavement reinforcement
  • Ground stabilisation over weak soils
  • Sub-base reinforcement
  • Construction and civil engineering projects

It's a particularly useful option where poor ground conditions would otherwise require additional excavation or greater quantities of aggregate.

Choose Your Strength

TechGrid BX is available in three grades, making it easier to choose a reinforcement level appropriate for your project.

TechGrid BX20 – 20kN Grade
A versatile ground stabilisation geogrid for projects requiring general reinforcement.

TechGrid BX30 – 30kN Grade
A stronger option for applications requiring increased ground and sub-base reinforcement.

TechGrid BX40 – 40kN Grade
The strongest TechGrid BX option, designed for more demanding ground reinforcement applications.

Always select the grade based on the requirements of your individual project, ground conditions and engineering specification where applicable.

Why Use a Biaxial Geogrid?

Without reinforcement, aggregate can gradually move sideways under loading. On softer ground this can contribute to rutting, settlement and an uneven surface.

A biaxial geogrid works within the aggregate layer, helping to lock the stone into position and distribute loads across a wider area.

This can help:

  • Improve ground stability
  • Increase bearing capacity
  • Reduce lateral aggregate movement
  • Reduce rutting and deformation
  • Improve load distribution
  • Reinforce weak sub-grades
  • Potentially reduce aggregate requirements
  • Create a longer-lasting construction

Durable Polypropylene Construction

TechGrid BX is manufactured from extruded polypropylene for excellent durability when installed underground.

The material is resistant to naturally occurring acids, alkalis, bacteria and fungi. When correctly buried in natural soil conditions, the product has a predicted long service life.

How Do You Install TechGrid BX?

Prepare and level the sub-grade before rolling the TechGrid BX geogrid across the area.

Individual rolls or sections should be overlapped according to the requirements of the project and ground conditions. Aggregate is then installed over the geogrid, allowing the stone to interact and interlock with the grid.

For applications where separation and filtration are also required, TechGrid BX can be used alongside a suitable geotextile membrane. This can help prevent fine soil particles migrating into your aggregate layer.

The geogrid should be covered after installation and should not be left exposed to UV for extended periods.
